Sporting Lisbon defender Oguchi Onyewu has said that his side are very ambitious and will be aiming for the UEFA Europa League title following their 2-0 win over FC Zurich on Thursday.
The Sportinguistas were welcomed to Letzigrund by FC Zurich in their UEFA Europa League opener. The visitors secured three points with a hard-working performance against the Swiss League giants.

Now being labelled as genuine title contenders, Sporting have to prove their credentials week-in, week-out. However, Onyewu claims that the club’s sole aim is not only the Portuguese crown but they also intend to become the champions of Europe’s 2nd tier
competition.
Speaking to reporters, the former Milan man said that the Lisbon outfit are a large enough club to have lofty ambitions such as their desire to lift the Europa League trophy.
"It makes sense that this is only the aim of reaching the final. The aim is to win the Europa League. A club like Sporting must have such ambitions.”
The centre-back also lavished praise on his side and said they possessed a very talented squad, whose in-depth quality allowed them to become a top team.
"I'm glad these games but I do not hold the title for granted. We have four very talented core and any of them can play. It is this abundance of options makes Sporting a strong team.”
Onyewu said that while the Lions have targeted a plethora of silverware, they would have to concentrate on the task at hand and focus on their upcoming fixtures if they are to celebrate any win in May.
