Sporting Lisbon director Carlos Freitas rules out a move for Ricardo Quaresma – Liga Sagres News
Sporting Lisbon’s director of football, Carlos Freitas, has waived away speculation linking the former player and Portuguese International, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Quaresma-c31018, with a move back to Estadio Jose Alvalade.
The Lions were reportedly keeping tabs on their former winger and had lodged their interest with Besiktas.
According to reports, both clubs had also reached an understanding and had agreed over €6 million transfer fee for the highly-rated forward.
A move was expected to be completed in the upcoming weeks but in a turn of events, the Jose Alvalade officials have denied making an offer for their former player and also reiterated that a move could not possibly materialize due to financial constraints.
Speaking to reporters, Director Carlos Freitas revealed that although the Selecao International would be a great signing for the club, the Sportinguistas would not be able to pay his wages and thus a move was not in the works.
"Quaresma would have a place in the squad, but we are talking about a utopia, financially speaking.
"Only by not knowing of his salary can people talk about it. Quaresma has a salary that cannot be offered in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984. We have not tried to sign him." He concluded.
The 27-year-old played for the Leos in 2003 after graduating from the famed Sporting academy. However, Quaresma only stayed with the club for two more years before leaving to try his luck with bigger European clubs. After a short stint with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, he
enjoyed his most prolific spell at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 and went onto play for four seasons at Estadio do Dragao.
After parting ways with the Dragons in 2008, the attacker had brief spells with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 before signing for Besiktas in June 2011.
While he was a marquee signing at the Turkish club, Sporting had allegedly made a proposal for the Portuguese star and offered him a chance to return to his homeland. However, according to the club officials, no such deal was presented and Quaresma will
not be coming back to Lisbon, in this transfer window at least.
