Sporting Lisbon to seek a central defender in the January transfer window – Liga Sagres News
Portuguese giants, Sporting Lisbon, are reportedly going to enter the January transfer window in order to search for a central defender. The Lions have suffered with injuries to the majority of their backline and are going to acquire a new player to fill
the gap.
Domingos Paciência’s Sporting Lisbon have been well noted for their attacking line-up in the Primeira Liga. The Lisbon outfit boast the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valeri-Bojinov-c35853 in their ranks and have been scoring easily to boot.
However what has really hampered the club’s chances of challenging for the Liga Sagres title is their back-line, which is readily talented but has suffered due to injuries in recent weeks.
The Sportinguistas acquired the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oguchi-Onyewu-c28332 and Emiliano Insua during the summer, but the duo have not been able to make a deep impression at Estadio Jose Alvalade due to niggling injuries.
American International, Oguchi Onyewu, was starting to make a name for himself at the club; however he has been sidelined due to physical problems. Insua’s career in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 has also been along the same lines and it has left Domingos Paciência with no other
choice than to dive into the market.
Although not the biggest side in Europe, Sporting were able to acquire nearly 18 new players during the summer transfer window and boast the necessary financial muscle to mount another raid in January.
While money is not the problem, finding the right targets will be, as the market is usually over inflated with hefty price tags for mediocre players. But given the right scouting network and an eye for quality, gems with low transfer fees can also be uncovered.
However it still not clear who Sporting Lisbon will be targeting when the window re-opens in the upcoming months.
High profile targets such as Luisao or http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rolando-c31583 could be the solution to the club’s problems, but convincing their employers to part ways with their prized assets will be a tough task even for Domingos Paciência’s side.
Despite the obvious set-backs, the Leos will be in the upcoming transfer market looking for a decent centre-back in order to quell their defensive woes.
