Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon have decided to take disciplinary action against Valeri Bojinov, after the player forcefully took a penalty against Moreirense but failed to convert it.
The Bulgarian, who signed from Parma in the summer, has found himself in a lot of trouble after fighting with his teammates over a penalty and then proceeding to miss the spot-kick.
Sporting took on Moreirense in the League Cup but failed to grind out a win. The Lions started brightly though and on 28 minutes took the lead through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Capel-c11100, who sniffed out a chance after confusion in the opponents’ penalty box.
However Moreirense responded well and leveled things on the 35th minute through Ghilas, who got the ball in the back of the net through an acrobatic finish. The Liga Orangina outfit were close to making it 2-1, but Luis Pinto’s effort went just
wide.
After the break, Sporting searched for the winner but were unable to find a way through until the 93rd minute. Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 man, Jeffren, was bundled in the box and earned his side a path to victory after the referee awarded a penalty.
Matias Fernandez stepped up to take the spot kick, but was thrust aside by Valeri Bojinov, who wanted to go for glory himself.
However the Bulgarian International missed the penalty and it has angered the Sporting officials. The club are now allegedly looking to press disciplinary charges against the attacker and have prohibited him from using any of the club’s facilities until
further notice.
According to statement issued by the Lisbon giants, the club will charge the player on account of breaking the code of conduct.
"In light of the events which took place in the match between Sporting and Moreirense, the board has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valeri-Bojinov-c35853.”
The statement also revealed that until the matter had been fully resolved the player would not be able to use any Sporting facilities, including the stadium.
"Until the conclusion of these proceedings, the player is provisionally suspended from all activities and is forbidden from accessing the club's facilities, whether it be the academy in Alcochete or the Estadio de Alvalade."
Facing a inquiry at the helm and already low in the pecking order, Valeri Bojinov’s career at Sporting Lisbon finished the instant he missed that penalty. However he can get his own career back on track, as Levski Sofia have expressed an interest in signing
him.
Although he is on-loan from Parma, the player would find that returning to his homeland could help him calm down and think things through. He would also be able to get a run of games under his belt and hopefully show other European clubs that he has the
temperament and talent to play at the highest level for a few more years.
