Sporting Lisbon president Godinho Lopes has ruled out any chances of the club sacking under-fire manager Domingos Paciencia.
The Lions’ season has been a topsy-turvy ride so far. Initially their summer spending spree showed a lot of promise but in recent weeks, the hefty signings have failed to repay their value and the club are fast going out of contention for a European berth.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricky-van-Wolfswinkel-c31131 was arguably one of the best players in the country during the first-half of the campaign but since then his form has waned considerably.
The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oguchi-Onyewu-c28332 have not been performing to the best of their abilities and Valeri Bojinov’s antics also proved costly for the side.
Sporting are currently on the hunt for silverware in the Portuguese Cup, the UEFA Europa League as well as the Primeira Liga, but their chances are looking pretty bleak.
The Lisbon giants are 16 points behind league leaders Benfica, which means that their title hopes are all but over. The UEFA Europa League is filled with too much quality this time and with Manchester United and Manchester City in the mix, the Sportinguistas
are unlikely to go far in the tournament.
However, despite the club’s recent form, Domingos Paciencia will not be given the boot according to Godinho http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lopes-c22413, who admits that the side haven’t been performing well as of late.
Speaking to reporters, the official said he was not satisfied with the results as he was not only the superemo but an ardent fan as well.
"I cannot smile, nor be happy with the results. I am Sporting's president, but I am also a supporter and I cannot be happy with the results.”
He also added that the work of the coaches did not fully reflect in the displays and that he spoke to the tactician on a regular basis.
"The work of technical staff is different from the results, we need to consolidate the project and create conditions for it to succeed. I speak with Domingos every day and our concern is to create conditions for the team to achieve good results,” Lopes was
quoted as saying.
While Paciencia faces no immediate threat to his post, if things continue like this, he is likely to be fired before the season even concludes.
