Sporting Lisbon’s Diego Rubio waives away Marseille interest
Sporting Lisbon striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Rubio, claims that he is not aware that French giants Marseille are on his trail. The 18-year-old said that he had no knowledge of the Ligue 1 club’s interest and was instead focused on making a career at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
The Chilean International signed for the Lions in the summer and has become an integral part of the coach’s plans for the future. Primarily featuring as a forward, chances have been limited for the youngster mostly due to the scintillating form of Ricky
van Wolfswinkel.
Appearing only three times this term despite his potential, Rubio, has been eyed by other teams due to his peripheral status at Sporting and amongst the clubs chasing after him, Marseille are believed to be the front-runners.
Vincent Labrune’s men boast some quality front-men in the likes of Loic Remy and Andre-Pierre Gignac but the tactician is reportedly on the hunt for a player that would not only be available on the cheap but would represent a long-term investment as well.
Still in his teenage years, Rubio, has already been capped by his country and is slowly getting accustomed to the European game.
A transfer to the French league and run out in a string of games could do him wonders; however the player claims he knows nothing about Marseille’s interest in him.
Speaking to reporters, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Colo-Colo-c38847 man said that he was unaware that the Ligue 1 outfit were tracking his movement but revealed that he was content in Lisbon and was aiming to cement his place in Domingos Paciência’s team.
"I know nothing. My goal is to continue to improve. I got the chance to play for Sporting and will always continue to give my best. As such, I will continue to work to have more opportunities in the team.”
He also added that he was quite thrilled to have returned to his country and it had boosted his morale by quite a bit.
"Yes, I'm actually very happy. I'm very happy! It was the first time that I had returned to my country since I signed for Sporting and I went back to see my friends and family. It was something great and gave me so much strength,” Diego Rubio was quoted
as saying.
With Marseille looking to add more players during the upcoming transfer window, the winter will be quite a testing period for Diego Rubio and Sporting Lisbon’s resolve.
