Sports Counselor for Andalusian government Luciano Alonso welcomes 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8
The eighth act of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series is currently heading to Andalusia in Almeria, where 11 extreme 40 boats will commence races on Port of Almeira waters from October 12-16. The Tourism, Trade and Sports Counselor of Andalusian government, Luciano Alonso, has welcomed the return of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series on behalf of his government.
The region of Andalusia previously held the 2005 Mediterranean Games and hosting the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8 is a part of Andalusian government’s objective to make Almeria one of the top international venues for sailing. In order to fulfil that, the regional government has established the Extreme Race Village in the Port of Almeria.
While speaking to local media, Alonso said, “The Andalusian government wishes to bring to our region a series of top sporting events that give the tourism season continuity and generate a sport and tourism flow that has a clear positive economic impact for Andalucía. It is with great satisfaction that we welcome the Extreme Sailing Series to Almería again.”
He further added, “This competition holds a clear advantage compared to other sailing events. All the action happens a few metres away from the spectators allowing the public to watch the competition from very close. I wish to invite everyone in Almería and those who love the sport of sailing to enjoy the regattas so the Port of Almería becomes a natural stadium for sailing.”
