Sports National Council of Spain awards CEV Vice President with Gold Medal - Volleyball
The Sports National Council of Spain honoured the President of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) and CEV Vice President, Agustín Martín Santos, with a Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit. The award ceremony was held at the headquarters
of the National Institute of Sports in Madrid and was chaired by HRH the Infanta Cristina. The Secratary of State, Albert Soler, and Director General of sports in Spain National Council, Matilde Garcia Duarte, attended the award ceremony.
Every year, this special honour is awarded to those people, including volleyball personalities, players or entities, who have some distinction in the field of sport to stand apart from others. This is the recognition of the highest level for people attached
with sports. The Sports National Council of Spain holds the right to choose the person for this annual award. Santos settled for the award on account of his exceptional work in the management, organization, promotion and development of volleyball. However,
to persons who have excelled throughout the year in any sport other than volleyball are also eligible for the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit.
Mr. Santos was elected as CEV Vice President at the XXXII CEV General Assembly in Vienna, Austria in the month of September, 2011. The General Assembly of the European Volleyball was attended by the members of 54 National Federations, who gave out their
vote of confidence for different nominees of different positions. The unanimous mandate from the delegates helped Santos take over the role of Vice-President of Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV).
The Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit accepted by the President of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation is the clear sign of recognition of his efforts and excellence in the development of Volleyball in Spain.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of State, Albert Soler, expressed his views about the decision and also passed his remarks about Santos when he stated: “This ceremony celebrates the work performed by many people and athletes who are exemplary. You are the clearest
representation of the values associated to sport, such as noble practice, effort, excellence and solidarity, and are the living radiography of what is the sport in Spain.”
