  1. An inguinal hernia is a tear in the muscle wall along the right or left groin. Tightening your stomach muscles, or straining can cause the intestines to come out through the tear. If the intestines get trapped on the outside of the muscles they can create a real problem if their blood flow gets pinched in the muscle wall. This would be a surgical emergency, if that section of your bowel (intestine) died it could become infected, or cause the rest of your intestines to stop working.

The other concern is that the tear could continue to get bigger with participation in sports.

It is easy to fix a hernia. Usually a day procedure that doesn't involve an overnight stay.

Inguinal hernias are more common in boys than girls, but girls can get them too.

If you are sitting on the fence deciding whether to fix this or not, I hope this information has helped you.
