our school is having a relay tryout this thursday. i've already practiced a few times with my friend, but i dont think im as good as the other girls in my school. were running 100 meters, and one of my friends only take 14 seconds to run it! where as i take about 18 seconds. is there any way to improve my running so that i could at least be a little bit faster. also, our school is making a co ed volleyball team which are only grade 8's who were on the actual team in the beginning of the year. since i was on the girls volleyball team this year, im going to try our for the coed volleyball team. im a pretty decent player, but im not THAT good. im ok at volleys and bumps, but i can only serve under hand, and i cant spike at all. any suggestions how?????

btw, the volleyball tryouts are also on thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. just keep practicing, that's all i can say!

  2. for track, well, you can't increase your speed that much in like a day or two, so, i would just try my best. it's the truth.

for volleyball though, upperhand is simple.

pretend you're pulling a bow. if you're right handed, put the ball on your left hand, palms up, and bring your right hand all the way back, and just naturally, push the ball up with your left hand, and swing your right hand over and hit the ball.

when you hit, it's vital that you flick your wrist a bit. this gives you much more control over the ball. direction and power-wise.

experiment with it, if it doesnt work, don't force it, cause everyone's different.

it's like basketball. everyone has a different jumpshot.

michael jordan and ray allen both have excellent jumpshots,

but clearly, they use different forms.

    so experiment it out.

  3. For spiking, start at the attack line..either if you are power, middle, or off power, will be different, but with power and middle, you face your setter, and have your left foot out in front of you, with your arms behind you. Take a big step with your right foot, throw your arms into a cross in front of your chest. now take one more step and throw your hands back out. Then your last step should just be you gettin ready for the jump.. more like puttin your feet together. Jump, and make sure your palm comes into contact with the ball.SLAM IT as hard as you can. If you are too early or too late, you can always tip it. Those get points just as much as spikes do.

For overhand serving, my coach got me to take the ball in my left hand palms up. take your right hand and pull it back until its by your ear, with your palm facing out. Toss the ball straight up into the air, and take a slight step with your right foot.and bring your hand straight into contact with the ball. If you cant serve over hand, thats not the biggest problem. If you know how to serve short and down the line on your underhand, thats just as good.

  4. Yes Just Practice i was on a volleyball team too and i couldn't spike at all after i watch some videos and they help a lot like when you spike your supposed to raise your opposite hand above your ear and then swing your hand into the ball then it spikes hope this helps =D. Just watch some videos and practice don't worry your going to do just fine :D
