Hi. I'm looking at buying a sporty car in the future when I get a NCD. I'm looking at something like a Ford Probe or a Toyota Celica. They seem to be ok to insure and are quite sporty.

What can you recommend looking at that is quite cheap to insure but packs a bit of punch?

  1. Mitsubishi FTO - It's a bit old now but it still looks good. Not sure on the insurance, but it's only a 2 litre so can't be too bad.

  2. I don't quite see the logic in a V6 specifically: For example, the Ford Probe is just a Mondeo - not at all quick, the V6 2.7 is less powerful than the 4 cylinder 2.0GT Celica, which also goes, stops & handles like a sporty car.

Personally, I'd go for a BMW 320i or 320d (or the bigger engines if you can afford them.

I've two young nephews with BMWs, they insure them no problem in Swansea (high risk area).

They're very quick, very reliable & a real sporting car.

    My 320d (yes, diesel - bags of grunt!) has 160bhp, does 0 - 60 in 8.5 seconds, and does 45mpg driven like a t**t!

At seven years old, it's worth around £4k, but I have a 1996 318i SE in my garage which I'm selling for £500, so there's a model for every pocket.

  3. Most of the sporty compacts are expensive to insure. I would go with midsize like Nissan Altima or Honda Accord coupe, especially if you can afford a V6 and can find a manual transmission.

  4. Grand Prixs perhaps?

  5. 'Sporty Cars' and 'Easy to insure' are contradictory terms mate. If it is sporty it will be expensive to insure, particulary until you have your 25th birthday.  Until you are are 25 as far as the insurers are concerned you are high risk. On your 25th birthday someone waves a magic wand and suddenly you are a normal risk.

  6. Nissan Altima SE-R

  7. I definitly recomend the vw golf gti VR6. They are better then both probes and celicas. They are easy to ensure ( before you put aftermarket parts on). They have so many different mods to put on to make them look and perform great!
