Sporty used car for under $10K?

I am looking at a VW GTI/Jetta with the VR6, but am open to suggestions.

Well, this car is not really under $10K for a good one, but I like the Sentra SE-R. I question the long term reliability of the VW. It seems that they have not been as good as they should be. Sporty is an opinion when it comes to a car. What I think is sporty isn't going to be what you think it is. Just because a maker slaps an Sport designation on a car means nothing to me anymore. Given today economics, I will settle on a car that goes from point A to point B efficiently.

I would go with a Mitsubishi Eclipse or a Pontiac Grand AM GT. They're fairly common so that keeps the price down, plus they have quite a bit of power for a V6. They look sweet too.

The VW GTI is very reliable. The Jetta is not reliable at all. This is from personal experience. You can get a good 02 or 03 GTI in your price range. I would buy a GTI if I was you, it's a pretty amazing car for the price.
