Spot-fixing controversy really hurt me, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Amin-c94597 – Cricket News Update
Umar Amin, the young left-handed batsman from Pakistan, has expressed that the spot-fixing controversy, which arose during the tour of England in 2010, hurt him immensely and feels that the whole episode was not good for the country’s
reputation in international cricket.
A British tabloid, the News of the World, broke a story during the last Test of the four-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993, were involved
in bowling deliberate no-balls, with the consent of their captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418.
The trio was immediately suspended from competitive cricket by the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) and was later sentenced for lengthy bans.
Amin, who was a part of the Pakistan squad during the tour, while speaking to Pakpassion, expressed that the spot-fixing saga was a tragic moment for Pakistan cricket, not bringing a good name to the country. The left-handed batsman
wishes that his side had avoided the whole situation.
The 23-year-old cricketer said, “It hurt me, it hurt the whole squad, it hurt Pakistani cricket lovers and it hurt the image of Pakistan. It was very damaging for the reputation of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket and it was shocking. Of course we
all wish that nothing of the sort would have occurred but sadly we cannot change the past.”
Amir and Asif were considered among the world’s finest new-ball bowlers, after their superb performances in different conditions. Whereas, Butt was expected to lead Pakistan in the years to come and had emerged as a solid left-handed
opener. The absence of their three premier cricketers has surely hampered the Green Shirts’ progress at the highest stage of the sport.
Umar, who has been recalled to the national team recently after some brilliant performances in domestic cricket, feels that the emerging players should learn a lesson from the spot-fixing controversy and should look to enhance the country’s
image all across the world.
“Having said that though, we as a group of cricketers and as a nation need to move on from that, learn from what happened, move forward and give Pakistan cricket a good name around the globe - build its reputation,” Amin added.
