Spot-fixing tainted Salman Butt may receive 7-year ban
According to some sources, things are not looking bright for Pakistan’s former Test skipper, the left-handed batsman Salman Butt, who may face a seven year ban from all formats of cricket in an International Cricket Council hearing set to begin from 6th
of January 2011.
According to an insider, the tainted skipper is most likely going to be slapped with a seven year ban while the other two suspects in the spot-fixing case, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif may get away with a two year ban each.
The source said, “The way things are going for him (Salman Butt) the frequent change of lawyers and his abrasive relationship with the ICC, he does not appear to be in a position to plead his case effectively against the allegations against him. And apparently
the ICC ACU have prepared a long list of evidences against him based on the fact that he was captain and responsible for the conduct of the team."
It was further revealed that the pacers Amir and Asif were cooperating with ICC. “As far as Asif and Amir are concerned, they are likely to escape with shorter bans of around two years each for their role in the spot-fixing allegations. These two pace bowlers
are in a position to plead that they were ordered by their captain to do what they did and apparently they are being more cooperative and have a better relationship with the ICC ACU," the source added.
It appears that the ICC is tightening its grip on Salman Butt, who seems to be all alone in this hour of need. ICC has gathered enough evidence against the suspended skipper and the bulk of the evidence has been provided by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard which is investigating
the case from the beginning.
Butt’s position has further been comprised due to the fact that three of his prominent lawyers have quietly refused to be linked with his case anymore and now only one lawyer Yasin Patel remains by his side, who will be representing him in the spot-fixing
tribunal.
Earlier this summer, the trio were suspended from taking part in any form of cricket after they were accused of taking money from a bookie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed to bowl deliberate no balls in a Test against the English side in England.
