Spot-fixing verdict would not affect Pakistan-England series, says Andrew Strauss - Cricket News Update
The Test captain of England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, has said that the spot fixing verdict against three Pakistan players and the jail sentence would not affect the upcoming Test and One-Day series between England and Pakistan.
Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’ tainted trio will not affect the proceedings.
"No, look, you play against 11 other cricketers and one of the strong traits we try to foster within the England team is you worry about yourself and your own performance," said Strauss while talking to the media reporters at the sidelines of a charity function
on Friday.
"That's what we'll be doing in Dubai and it'll be another keenly contested series, as it always is against Pakistan, and what's gone on is water under the bridge," the English Test skipper insisted.
Former Pakistani Test captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 were handed a two and a half year, one year and a six month custodial sentence on Thursday after they were found guilty of “conspiracy to cheat, obtain and accept corrupt
payments” by a 12-member jury of Southwark Crown Court in London.
Despite the strict custodial sentences and heavy financial penalties imposed on the discarded trio, Strauss was hopeful the future matches against Pakistan would be like always.
However, the England skipper Strauss was critical of the role of the apex governing body, the International Cricket Council, in the affair and insisted the global governing body to be more proactive to root out corruption from the gentleman’s sport.
"For me, there's still a lot of questions to be answered because they weren't exposed by any of the cricketing members, they were exposed by the News of the World," said Strauss . "I still think the ICC could be doing a lot more than they are doing,” he
added further.
Strauss was also critical of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s anti-corruption committee, calling it a ‘toothless tiger’. He said that the resources available to ACSU are not enough to get into the real depth of such cases.
