Spot lights in the bathroom--- advise from electrician regarding transmitters pls?

i have brought 5 shower lights for an upstairs bathroom they are the low voltage one so was told will need transmitters now the problem is i got 1 transmitter to run three spot lights and 1 to run 2 the shop checked and said it had enough to run the 35w bulbs... the problem is my electrician want s me to get one transmitter per light... saying that he would have to put in 2 switches 1 for each trsnsmitter...but would he have used 5 for the individual ones??? i really think he is making his job easy any one out there that can advise me if i can use these two transmitters... dont want to exchange as will be expensive... the electrician is certified though and i dont really know whether he is being awkward now as ive questioned his work before>

Do you actually mean transMITTER, meaning that you can turn the lights on and off remotely, OR because they are low voltage, do you mean transFORMER.?

Assuming you mean transformers I believe your electrician is wrong.

Providing you don't exceed the rating of the transformer you can run as many lights from one transformer.  What I mean is if the transformer is rated at 70W you can run two 35W lamps from it.

Also you can only have 1 switch if thats what you want.  I would run the switch to the coil of a small contactor or relay and use that to switch all the circuits - 2 pole, 6 pole upto 16 pole if you like.  Using this principle you could switch 16 lighting circuits through 1 switch.

Assuming you mean transformers, he is actually right. I can't remember the science behind it, but i've been advised to not run multiple transformers off of one switch.

So he probably would use 5 switches for 5 transformers. Unless you want to have only a few of the lights on at a time, get a refund on the 2 transformers and get one that is big enough for all 5.
