  1. Fresh water puffers are actually brackish water fish so you should add aquarium salt when they are not looking or acting their best.  Once they get established, your water changes will reduce the salt content and as long as the puffers are looking and acting good, you don't need to maintain the brackish level.  Puffers are notorious fin nippers and don't get along with many other fish or even each other but you could try scats, archer fish or other brackish water fish if you have a big enough tank.

  2. i love walmart too but their fish are usually not the healthiest.  i would see if you could find that type of fish somewhere else.  if you really want one from there make sure non of the fish in the tank have any white spots.  if they don't have any white spots(ich), then pick the one you think is the most active and looks the healthiest.  Good luck!

  3. try a pet store

fish there are healthier and happier

  4. Most pet stores have spotted green puffers but i would not suggest get ting them from walmart. What you should look for in a fish is:

    - Good color, not discoloured at all

    - An active fish always swimming around not floating at the top or sitting on the bottom

    - No tattered tails, white spots, or fuzz on the fish

    - No bulging part of the body including the eyes (unless its a moor goldfish)

If you can not get a good one then you need to diagnose the disease by finding the syptoms. Just ask your local pet store or search online.

    Hope this helped

  5. i find it hard to believe walmart has such a speciality fish. go to an aquarium shop dealer. if you are looking at walmart for a puffer fish. you should not be getting one because they are a lot of work and need great care.

  6. I very much recommend staying away from the green spotted puffers. they are probably some of the best looking puffers but they are very hard to take care of. from birth to about 2 inches in length they are fresh water; from 2 inches to about 4.5 inches they need to be in brackish water ( with a specific gravity of about 1.016); and then will need to be in a fully saltwater tank (specific gravity of about 1.023). Also, a green spotted puffers can grow to be 8 inches long (and i've seen one 10 inches) and a puffer that size requires a very large tank to stay happy (i'd say 100+ gal).

all in all you need to do some research before jumping into the wonderful world of puffers as they are some of the hardest fish to keep. do a google search as there are a lot of websites with huge amounts of info and great people who really know what they are talking about

    best of luck to you

  7. some fins of theres are nipped so watch out for that and their color has to be very vibrant and darkish. also if it has ick or somthing use aquarium salt or quickcure. goodluck!!!! =D

  8. i would really try a diff. store if not lk the other person said look for no white spots and the most active and if some one is working ask them if you can watch them eat.. look for one that eats good..
