Spotting between menstrual cycles?

I sometimes spot between periods. This time I am spotting a dark reddish color of blood...

I started the pill about a month ago. I was recently checked for STDs and had a pap smear. No STD's, but my papsmear did come back abnormal (I am going for a biopsy soon). Can these things be related to my spotting?

Yes they can. I had a biopsy for same problem after a smear test was done and this cone biopsy showed up abnormal cells in the neck of the womb. The neck of the womb was surgically removed and I went to cancer clinic once a year for 10 years before the final all clear was given and I had no more clinic appointments after that. (the 1st 6 months after the op I had to go more often though). All of this happened 34 years ago and I have never had a problem since.
