Question:

Spotting due to late pills?

I have been taking oral contraceptives for about 5 months now. during the last week of my last pack, i was constantly taking the pill late, usually about 2-3 hours late. then when i started taking the placebos, i got my period. But i continued to take my pills about 2-3 hours late on my current pack. So for a week and a half straight, i have been taking my active pills late. and now i am experiencing mid-cycle spotting. Is the spotting completely due to the late pills? Also would the constant late pills lower the effectiveness of the pill even if i have now been taking the pill on time for about a week? and how long should i be expecting this spotting to last? and how should i go about finishing this pack...should i start a new pack, should i skip the placebos, or should i finish the whole pack?

  1. The spotting is most likely due to your pills not working properly anymore due to you not taking it correctly. Go ahead and continue taking your pills as usual, but use a back up method. Hopefully, you've already been doing that.
