Question:

Spotting for 2 weeks, then abnormally long period?

I starting spotting about 4 days before my period was supposed to come. It lasted for 2 weeks, it was nothing all that bad, didn't even need to use tampons or a pad. I am not pregnant. I then actually got my period on the 10th which should've been done by the 15th or 16th, but I still have it. I know I'm not pregnant, but I did have a HSG test last month to see if there were any blockages in my tubes, which there were not. I will be going to the doctor on Friday, but I was hoping to get a few ideas of what could be the reasoning for this. Any thoughts and ideas are welcome. Thanks so much!

  1. Sounds like a hormone imbalance, I had this problem too. The doctor will put you on a pill for about 3 weeks to balance out your hormones again, and it will stop the bleeding.

  2. If your doctor doesn't mention it, ask him if this could a low thyroid as that can cause long  and irregular periods.  You take a simple blood test about every six months while taking a pill.  It can easily be controlled.  A lot of people have it.
