I live in a bushfire danger zone and since summer is here, I'm keen to know of any readily available chemical(s) which is/are water soluble and can be sprayed around a home and over cars to protect them. I watched a demo the other day. The person was using a garden hose attached to a plastic bottle just as you would with some lawn fertilizers. It left a milky surface on a small wooden structure and when surrounded with straw and set alight, protected it extremely well. Also on a motor vehicle and enough that a person's life would have been saved with the passing of a fire. I was keen until I saw that the price tag was in the hundreds of dollars just for what seemed to be only about four litres. I'd greatly appreciate any help as the entire state is tinder dry and the fire threat is here for at least the next three months.

  1. The chemical is very expensive.Try substituting beer instead of the chemical. Not sure if it works as well but I can guarantee it tastes better.
