Question:

Spraypainting... mistake!!

Hey. Currently just spraypainted my side panel black. Right preperations and everything went well until I got to the clear coat.

1. It dripped

2. Some small bubble like holes in the clear coat.

3. Accidently on a corner sanded it down to undercoat (very small portion)

- Now for 1, would I be able to sand it down using 2000 wet or will I have to use LESS finer grit and re-apply the clear coat?

- For 2, what can I do? sand it down or will I have to re-apply the clear coat over it? if so will it cover it up

- For 3, will I be able to cover up the whole panel except that part, re-apply black, and then re-apply the clear coat? Or do I have to RE-SPRAY the WHOLE thing? :S

Please help guys ASAP. And please make out defined answers please listing 1,2,3...

  1. When paint runs, usually you can take a piece of tape and gently touch it to the drip when it's still wet and remove just the drip.  If you do it when it first drips, often the paint will lay down nicely once the excess is removed.

Ok, you didn't know that and you have a hardened run.  You'll be rubbing an awfully long time with 2,000 grit to get out bubble-pops or a hardened run.  I would use 360 to get most of it off, then move up to 600 to finish.

Of course you'll have to re-apply the clear coat.  Scuff the entire surface first.

To get out those flaws without re-shooting, you probably could go up through the grits from 600 through micro-fine 2,000, but then you'd have to go through 2 or 3 grades of polishing compound and even then you might not be happy with the gloss.  I would be amazed if you could do all that without going through the clear-coat.  It's probably easier just to shoot it again.

As for that sand-through in the corner.  You can apply color coat with a very small paint brush, let it dry and smooth it with soapy water and a small piece of 600 and clear-coat it along with the rest.
