Question:

Spreadsheets or checklists to aid stockpicking

Does anyone know where I can download spreadsheets or find checklists that would aid my stockpicking?

I'm looking for something where I can input all the relavant numbers and ratios, as well as fill in answers to subjective questions so I can then save the file for my records.

  1. I've been using spread sheet for years and found them extremely helpful but there were no canned spreadsheets so I had to build my own

For years I've been using MSN Money screening, there are pre-built screens but it was more productive to build my own.  The results of all the screens (predesigned and custom made) are all down loaded into a spread sheet,

You can build various screens based on you immediate goals or current market conditions.

Once you download the spread sheet it can be modified to fit into the spread sheet you designed

Once you built (formated) your spread sheet, the down loads and the cut/paste is relatively simple,

  2. The book "Sensible Stock Investing" David Van Knapp developed a check list for determining whether a stock might be a sound investment or not.  The check list can be worked into a spread sheet.  It basically assigns values to different categories of how well the company is doing.  You then sum up the total score to see relatively how good an investment the company might be.  Using the valuation technique, a total score above about 50 is indication of a potentially good investment.

    Here is an indication of how it works.  P/E < 11 +5, P/E 11-15 +4, P/E 15-32 +3, P/E 33-80 +1, P/E > 80 0.   Personally, I would cut off about P/E 25.  But anyway that gives you an idea and it can easily be developed into a spreadsheet.

A couple of stocks that I scored gave ratings from 30 to 43.  GLW 30 and COP 43

  3. I dont now of anything like that but you might find something useful to you here.
