Springboks determined to clinch first victory in Tri-Nations Cup 2011- Rugby News
The Springboks lost the opening two matches of the ongoing Tri-Nations Cup 2011 to Wallabies and All Blacks but are now determined to clinch their first victory of the tournament on August 13 against Australia in Durban. The injury ruined side has not given
up the hope to taste their first victory of the last event before Rugby World Cup 2011 despite heavy odds. Talking to journalists on August 13, Bismarck du Plessis said that everyone in his side is motivated to bag the first win.
In his talk with reporters, De Plessis said that victory at this stage is very important for the Boks, whose confidence has been shaken after two humiliating defeats. He further said that, “Everyone in our group, from the youngest player to the coach, is
talking about the importance of winning this match. That was a Springbok team overseas, no matter who played in it. But you can speak about it as much as you want in team meetings… it is the talking on the field that counts, so we must all ‘arrive’ on Saturday
and do the business.”
Du Plessis further said that, “Different coaches sometimes have differing views on how they want to use you, and I am happy just to play my role in hopefully beating Australia on Saturday.”
The Boks are facing the worst player crisis of their history as seasoned players have been left out of the team due to various injuries. The Boks are missing at least 21 front line players after the conclusion of Super Rugby 2011, who are now expected to
make their presence in the South African side during RWC 2011.
Butch James, another South African player, urged his colleagues to deliver the performance on the ground, rather than make big claims in fron of the media. He argued that most of the players have been relying on big talk since the opening of Tri-Nations
Cup and its time to make it happen on field.
The Boks are facing stern criticism from senior players and other observers. South Africa will face Australia in their third match of Tri-Nations on August 13 in Durban.
