Springboks devastate Namibia by a monstrous margin of 87-0: Rugby News
South Africa thumped Namibia by a huge difference of 87-0 on September 22 in North Shore City. The Boks scored 12 tries to seal an impressive win in the ongoing 2011 Rugby World Cup. Gio Aplon, Juan de Jongh and Francois Hougaard contributed two tries each
in their teams’ splendid victory.
The Springboks coach, Peter de Villiers, made five changes in his side to take on the meager Namibian squad. Willem Alberts replaced Heinrich Brussow and prop CJ van der Linde got his chance to represent South Africa at the tight-head position. Gio Aplon
and Bryan Habana were deployed at wings positions for the match.
Meanwhile, Namibian coach, Johan Diergaardt, featured six changes in his side expecting some results in this approach. Jacques Nieuwenhuis was the major change in his side among the other four modifications. He was put on the number eight position to make
the forward bunch strong.
South Africa discovered the loop holes in Namibia's ranks very quickly in the game and scored some quick points. Morne Steyn got off the mark for Boks with a penalty goal and provided his side a platform to put a huge total on the board. Gio Aplon further
enhanced his teams’ total to 8-0 with the first try of the match and later on the flood gates were opened for the Springboks and they enjoyed many smooth runs into the Namibian try lines during the rest of the match.
South Africa scored four tries before the break to take the handsome lead of 31-0. Morne Steyn showed tremendous footwork to score four conversions and one penalty goal in the first part of the match. Namibia failed to put something on the scoreboard in
the whole first-half as the Boks displayed flawless defence.
The miserable performance of Namibia continued even into the second-half and they provided their rivals lollypop chances to multiply their total after the break. The Boks stole eight more tries in the second part of the match. South Africa concluded their
excellent rout over the Namibians with a score of 87-0 with the help of 12 tries.
