Springboks taste first victory of Tri Nations Cup 2011 after routing All Blacks - Rugby
Springboks finally grabbed a victory in the Tri Nations Cup 2011 in their last match of the championship against the All Blacks on August 20. The Boks outclassed the World Number 1 team by 18-5 and gave a strong message to the other teams for the forthcoming
Rugby World Cup 2011. Earlier, they had conceded three consecutive defeats in the tournament and were fearful of ending their last fight with another debacle. Morne Steyn was simply perfect for his team as he scored all the points by himself.
The one man show begans with a three pointer in the seventh minute of the match as the Boks were awarded a penalty kick. The All Blacks looked rusty with their tackles and repeated the same foul on a number of occasions. They displayed a poor discipline
in the match and conceded 12 penalties in the game. On the other hand Boks were more accurate in this regard as they conceded just seven in the whole match.
The All Blacks defence was also not up to the mark and huge loop holes were seen in their back rows. Their defenders were beaten 14 times in the match whereas the struggling Boks committed the same error only 9 times.
Steyn kicked his second successful shot into the All Blacks’ goals during the ninth minute of the match and raised their lead to 6-0. He continued with well directed penalty goals and led his side to a 15-0 lead over the favourites. New Zealand came into
the action for the first and last time during the 35th minute as Richard Kahui crossed the line of the Springboks with ball in hand.
The Boks were leading in the match with 15-5 at the end of the first-half and they could smell the first victory of the year after a painful journey. The second half was as slowl as the scoreboard was disturbed only once by Boks during the 59th
minute of the match.
