Question:

Sprinkler Heads for the Common Garden Hose?

I'm trying to find a sprinkler head (similar to an irrigation sprinkler head) that I can attach to a water hose. I looked at our landscaping at work today and they have several garden hoses with sprinkler heads attached in the middle. It looks like they have several small water hoses that are hooked together with these sprinkler heads. I couldn't see the company name on the sprinkler head but it's a pretty heavy duty sprinkler head. I'm looking for something like this for our landscaping here at home. Any ideas?

  1. I would ask your facilities manager for info on the ones you see at work.

Otherwise, call a local irrigation company.  They should be willing to sell what you are looking for, or rig something up for you.

  2. Are you describing an impulse sprinkler head? If so, you can purchase these at any home improvement store or a farm supply store.

I water from a well, and use a relay of impulse sprinklers to sprinkle the yard instead of dragging hoses all over the place. These sprinkler heads are very much like the ones farmers use, and can throw out a stream of water in a 30 foot radius. However, the more sprinkler heads you hook up, the lower the pressure will be. This may be a limiting factor for use at your home. Even though I have a 1.5 hp well, I can't hook up more than 2 sprinkler heads on one relay; any more and there isn't enough water pressure to push the impulse sprinklers around.

Impulse sprinkler heads have two hose connections, what plumbers call the "female" and the "male" ends. It's these two connections that allow the impulse sprinkler to be hooked up the way it's done at your job.
