Question:

Sprinkler /valve problem?

Okay I am going crazy.I noticed a leak on my sidewalk. My front yard goes downhill and I had a crack in some pvc pipe at the lowest point of the yard. I fixed it. Then the two sprinkler heads down there kept leaking and never stopped. The sprinklers worked at this time. So I shut off the water and I figured there was probably dirt or debris in the valve. So I took it apart and cleaned it and put it back together and now nothing. The water to the sprinklers does not work. When I turn the manual s***w water shoots out of the s***w itself but water does not come out of the sprinklers at all. When I turn the solenoid all I hear is a gurgling noise. It worked fine before I took it apart. I was very careful to put it back together exactly the way I was supposed to.So what did I do wrong? How do I fix this?

  1. sounds to me that you have a bad diaphragm in the valve. ,remember to line the t*t of the diaphragm hole to the solenoid  hole. .. put your ear down close and listen to the valve and you will hear it hissing to prove my point. ,UNSCREW THE TOP AND TAKE IT TO THE SUPPLY HOUSE FOR FULL REPLACEMENT. and reinstall.

  2. Is there a non-return valve in the system?

This is like a little mushroom inside the fittings that connect the pipes. The 'mushroom' opens when water is flowing in the right direction but closes if water tries to flow the othe way.

On my neighbour's hose there is an arrow that we assumed indicated the direction of flow but actually shows how to disconnect.

As you write sidewalk and I write neighbour I suspect that we may be on opposite sides of the Atlantic but I hope this helps.
