Question:

Sprint bill sent to collections?

by  |  earlier

I recently didn't have the money to pay my sprint bill. I called Sprint and they told me it went to collections. I have the money and want to pay the bill in full, however I do not want this to severely hurt my credit score. I've heard that to dispute the collections you should not pay it just yet because you have a better chance getting it of your credit report if you still have to pay the debt because you can make a deal with the collection agency. Or it is easier to pay the debt and the deal with the credit Bureaus later. Also I never received a letter stating that it was going to collections and I recently ran my credit report and the collections was not on there. I am only going by what Sprint is telling me which is that it did go to collections. Can someone help?

  1. pay it off now. it will be reported however it will look better if you pay it off now rather then later as they report that as well.

it takes 3 months for your credit report to be updated.

call them up and verfiy the amount and pay that.

  2. First of all, there is nothing to dispute, the debt is not beyond the reporting period and it is not a case of stolen identity.

As to the disputing the debt keeping it off your credit report, sorry to say that doesn't work.  It will be on your report even if you did settle with the collection agency.  It would show as paid but still would lower your score because it went to collections.

You may not have heard from anybody yet, but you will soon.  Contact Sprint again and ask who you need to contact to pay off the debt.  It still may be in house collection and not sold off as of yet.

    Hope this answers your question.

  3. Call Sprint back and ask what company this went to, or if it's being handled by their collections department and then ask to speak to them, if that's the case. This is early in the debt, it's just gone to collections. Work something out with them and pay it in full. It will look bad that it went to collections, but it will also be reported as paid and closed.

  4. They probably mean in-house collections, not a third party collection company.  Or did they tell you differently?  Best not to over analyze it and just pay it. It's a legit debt and your condition will not improve by trying to posture yourself for a better outcome.  Just pay it.
