Sprinter Sacre stamps authority in Boylesports.com Champion Chase
Sprinter Sacre did not disappoint his fans at all, when he appeared in the Boylesports.com Champion Chase (Grade 1) at Punchestown in Ireland. His performances in such events have been phenomenal and he has never allowed anyone to take control of the proceedings
in his presence.
Although there was some threat for the veteran runner from his rival Sizing Europe, he did not take any pressure at all and secured the top spot comfortably. He was declared as the outright favourite to succeed back then and was given a general starting
price of 1 to 9, which was not matched by anyone.
Due to this, the punters had immense faith in his abilities and did not gamble much money on any other challenger. They knew that he was going to be dominant and there were no surprises at the end of the day.
Although the start to the race was not a very good one for the seven-year-old gelding, he made up a lot of places with the passage of time. He jumped really well and there was no one, who could match his speed too.
Therefore, the French stallion succeeded by a comfortable margin of five and a half lengths in the end. He would have gained a lot of confidence after this run and will be looking to continue performing in the same manner in the future too.
His jockey Barry Geraghty was not expecting things to be easy though and stated, “I knew from four out it was not going to be easy. They went a good gallop, it was a good test of stamina and he doesn't lack in that department but he didn't land racing as
well at the second last.”
On the other hand, his trainer Nicky Henderson added that it is difficult to claim a massive victory on a testing field.
The veteran trainer claimed, “On good ground he's spectacular, but you can't do it on this ground. It's very hard to do the three festivals, but we wanted to come to Ireland and I'm just relieved and delighted it's worked out.”
Sprinter Sacre has now increased his overall victory tally to 14 whereas his record in chase events is 100 percent.
