ok, so i'm done being fat for the winter, and i've decided that i'm going to start running again to get in shape (i run XC), and i know that this might seem like a stupid question to some runners, but i forgot what which is better:

when running, OPEN FIST OR CLOSED?

  1. Open fist is better, but you certainly should not have your hands flat. You want to keep your hands in something of a fist shape, but not tight. Pretend that you are holding a piece of paper, you don't want to drop it, you don't want to crumple it either.

  2. Always keep your hands loose in long distance. This keeps you relaxed and stops your arms from getting cramped. Sprints either works.

  3. Definately open, I almost flick my own forearm with my fingertips because I have my hands and wrists relaxed, helps the shoulders relax like the previous answerer stated.

  4. Your upper body needs to stay relaxed. If you clench your hands and tighten up your shoulders you will tire sooner.

Just let  your hands do what they will without trying to keep them in any position.

  5. I'm a distance runner.. open fist is way better!! you stay really tense with a closed fist and if you're running distance then your shoulders may start to tighten up

  6. it's easier to run when your hands are open because you feel more relaxed and you won't cramp up

  7. In general, open fisted and relaxed is better.  The closed fist is what cramps up the shoulders and sides when running.
