Sprinting long distance for track?

How should my pace be

I was thinking

sprint the first 200 meters

slow it down a bit but keep a good pace for 100

then sprint the 100

Any other advice?? oh yeah while your at it do you have any tips to make me run faster...?

  1. I think you;re overthinking a short sprint race Jess.  All the stuff I've read says you should run a steady pace the whole way.  That's the fastest way to get there.

    As for making you run faster, I'd suggest 10x100s.  Run the straights hard, fast, controlled; then rest, relax, jog, walk the turns.  Half-mile warmup and warmdown.

  3. Go sloww at the beginning and then go full speed at the end. Trust me, it works :] You might be behind the first part, but at the end, you'll pass everyone and get first :D

  4. In my opinion, the 400 is a sprint, not a distance race, but...

    Its short enough to go nearly full out the whole time.  Last time i ran it, physically what i did was all-out for 250 meters, 50 meters a bit slower, then tried to speed up and held on for the last 100.  Its not so much strategy as just going, not thinking.  Too short for real strategy...
