  1. You need to make sure that what you have is intended for sprouting.  This means that they are not processed (ie split or something) or heated in any way that would keep them from sprouting, and they are not sprayed with chemicals and such.

If the beans, lentils, etc. you are wanting to sprout are over one year old, then throw them out and get more.

  2. Bean carrots potatoes they will sprout so will onion tops.

  3. Raw beans, nuts and seeds.  Preferrably organic.

  4. there seeds afterall, you can grow just about any seed you have. i found a pack of dried chillies that was a few years old, took some seeds out of the chillies and they grew!!!

  5. As long as the lentils (yellow, green, black, red, etc...) and seeds (e.g. mustard, soy, beansprouts, watercress,  etc...) are dried and WHOLE - not split- you can sprout them.

Make sure they are freshly bought (do not use them if they have already been ages in your pantry), dried, whole and wash them before use.

Use filtered or boiled water to avoid contamination.

You can buy hard plastic sprouting "boxes": one box has like 3 to 4 different levels to allow you to either make your seeds sprout at different times so that you will always have some sprouts available for consumption or you can use each compartment for a different seed or lentil.

tip : check out Indian grocery stores, they have a lot of veggies' seeds you can use for sprouting.

    Hope this helps.
