Question:

Spss - entering 'time' data?

hi all,

what's the best way of entering 'time' data into spss (hours, or convert the hours to minutes, or use values eg 1 = 1hr, 1.5 = 1hr 30mins etc).

also, if i'm comparing amount of time with other scores (eg a moral development score whereby i've not assigned a value, just entered the score number eg 1.77 or 2.95 etc) do i need to convert everything to Z scores? can you remind me how to do this, please?!

in case it makes any difference, i'm also looking at age, gender, and region (urban or rural). age is entered as number, gender i assigned values - 1 = male, 2 = female, and region i also assigned values, 1 = urban, 2 = rural.

if anyone can give any help i'd really really appreciate it!

thanks very much!

  1. When you transfer data into spss, It is link with the z scores. I think to make use of z scores is measuring all the variable that you have. In the case of `time` data, you may find that there a wide range of it in your questionnaire. Is it mess up of your data? No It won`t(and you can ever manage it)

The answer is making the data into range whereby all the range has equal measurement( I mean for example 45mn in a range so that I would be [0-45] [46-90] and so on....so you have already done with data arrangement. Last but not least give integer to them (1=[0-45],2=[46-90].......) and you can finally enter to spss.

I hope this would be an idea for you
