Spurious Precision emerges triumphant from the Saratoga Special Stakes on 12th August,
2012
Spurious Precision’s prior experience at Saratoga helped him a great deal, as he scored in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special Stakes on 12th August, 2012, where he rode under, Alan Garcia.
Trained by Richard A. Violette, the juvenile did well as he easily stretched to 6 ½ furlongs and romped to a five-length victory over, He's So Fine, while the third place was secured by In Harm's Way, who was ridden by rider, Edgar S. Prado.
Spurious Precision’s chances looked bleak before the race, as Shanghai Bobby was the centre of attention, but since he was scratched, the runner came out on top and ran with a 3-4 winning shot.
Spurious Precision led the race for the first quarter, which he completed in 21.35 seconds while being pursued by Southern Honor and Drum Roll in second and third place, respectively. Soon after Drum Roll quickened, and ran in second.
As he weakened, it gave the rest of the competition an opportunity to gain the lead and he was passed by He's So Fine and In Harm's Way.
Spurious Precision crossed the half-mile marker in 44.02 seconds, six furlongs in 1 minute and 09.62 seconds, completing the race in 1 minute and 16.53 seconds.
After the victory, handler Richard A. Violette couldn’t contain his excitement as he told the press:
“He put Alan in an impossible spot--he beat the latch. He broke so good, it’s not like you can take back at that point. There was serious pressure every jump of the way. Just watching horses come at him, and they did, he had a lot left.”
The trainer further added that he is the “real deal.”
Garcia, the winning jockey, agreed with the trainer’s views as he added:
“When he broke very sharp, I said, ‘I don’t want to take anything easy, so let’s go on. If he’s good enough, he’s going to beat this group,’ and he showed it.”
The son of High Cotton, out of mare Scarlet Combo, now has a perfect record, and now he will be vying for his hat-trick in the following race.
