Spurs Parker Bid Rejected
Tottenham Hotspur have had a bid for West Ham United midfield player Scott Parker turned down.
It is not clear how much the bid was actually for but West Ham rejected it with very little thought. This will be a blow to Harry Redknapp's plans as he continues to prepare his Spurs side for a big season.
Parker has been one of the most consistent players at West Ham over the last few seasons and a number of clubs are said to have been tracking his progress. However, Avram Grant is not going to let his most important players leave without a fight.
There are many benefits for Parker if he does stay at West Ham for the rest of the summer as the club will fight off even more interest in him. However, Spurs are one club that can offer the player a variety of things that he does not already have.
Staying
Staying would mean that Parker would remain as the main man at West Ham. He is the captain of the side and clearly holds a lot of influence at the club where he has re-defined himself over the last few seasons.
He knows his role inside out at the club and he will not want to risk the security of a starting place by moving to another club. Spurs have many different midfield players and there is no guarantee that Parker would start every game for them.
He has settled his family and his personal life after many trips around London. He has played at Charlton and Chelsea but seems to have found his home at West Ham. He is not likely to want to move again even though joining Spurs would lead to many things.
Co-owner of the club David Sullivan said: "I made a promise that I would not sell Scott and I will not, for any amount of money, break that promise to the West Ham supporters. Scott is not for sale at any price, to anyone. West Ham supporters, for too long, have had owners that sell their best players and promise one thing and do another."
Wealth of Opportunity
Joining Spurs would mean a wealth of opportunity and the club are likely to make an even bigger and better offer if they try and sign him again. The biggest pulling factor is Champions League football and this is something that a lot of the other clubs interested in Parker cannot offer.
Parker would join a club with a higher quality squad and this can only mean that Parker's game gets better. If he is training around and playing around better players then it will advance his game, which could mean his chances of playing for England increase.
Sullivan added: "This is a new era. We are building a bigger, better West Ham and when we make a promise, we honour it."
Advice
West Ham had it pretty rough at times last season and they seem to have settled under solid new ownership and an experienced new manager. Parker is likely to be the central figure in anything they achieve during the course of the season.
If Parker does leave then there will be a big gap in the middle of West Ham's team and this will be very difficult to fill. They will be forced into finding someone that will stop opposition attacks because if Parker leaves then it will mean that the club will concede a few more goals over the course of the season.
Don't be afraid to have a bet on him scoring either. He always pops up now and then with a cracker but he will not be the top scorer for club or in the league so only do this with each match that passes.
