Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has denied reports that the London side were considering trading midfielder Luka Modric for Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707.
The Blues were heavily linked with Modric in the summer transfer window, making three bids for the Croatian midfielder. Their offers were rejected by Tottenham Hotspur who claimed their prized midfielder was not for sale no matter what price Chelsea offered.
While Chelsea failed in their first few attempts to land Modric, it is rumoured they are still trying to land the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international. Recent reports revealed the Blues had offered Tottenham Hotspur Torres in exchange for Modric.
Torres has not been in the best of forms since joining http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. The striker who joined the Blues for a record breaking fee of 50 million pounds has scored just 5 goals in 40 appearances
in all competitions.
It is believed the Blues are now trying to get rid of Torres and have decided to sell him to Tottenham Hotspur for a much cheaper price. It was also reported they were considering offering the Spaniard in an exchange deal for Modric; a player they believe
is still valuable to them.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“No I have never heard that one.
I think Torres is starting to look the player that we all know he can be, the player he was at Liverpool - he is a top player no doubt that about it. But there is no way he is coming to Tottenham and no swap deal in the offing for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857, I think
they will get the best out of him.”
While Redknapp denied having any knowledge of the rumours, he insisted Luka Modric would be staying with the Spurs in the long run. The English manager revealed the Croatian would be offered a contract extension if the club chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy felt it appropriate.
He revealed:
“I don't know where they are but hopefully the chairman will come to agreement and he signs a new contract, he has got a long contract anyway.”
