Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp revealed he would like it if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 was once again named as a substitute for their clash on Thursday.
Since joining Chelsea in 2001 from West Ham United, Lampard has been a regular starter in the first team but since the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas as manager of the club has seen himself being dropped to the bench in favour of younger players.
The 33-year-old midfielder has mostly been starting on the bench for the Blues this season, but has still managed to make an impact for the Blues. In 21 appearances so far he has managed to score 8 goals and provide five crucial assists in all competitions.
Redknapp, who happens to be Frank Lampard’s uncle, revealed he knew the quality the Chelsea midfielder possessed. It was for this reason he did not want him to start against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Thursday.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“I hope he isn't playing. He is a fantastic player so if he is not playing I wouldn't be too disappointed.
Look at his record - he scores nearly 20 goals a year every year. That's incredible for a midfielder.”
The Blues go into the game two points behind the hosts and having played a game more, which automatically makes Tottenham Hotspur the favourites to win the fixture and retain the third spot on the Premier League table. Redknapp however, did not feel that
way.
He claimed:
“I wouldn't say we are favourites. It looks like an even game and we were not saying that a few years ago. We have come a long way.”
The English manager was certain the Blues would go on to challenge the top sides for trophies until the end of the season, having a highly skilful squad at their disposal. He considered them to be serious title contenders which is why he was wary of their
visit on Thursday.
Redknapp said:
“Chelsea will be there at the end of the season going for trophies.”
He continued:
“They have fantastic players, mentally strong players who have been there and won it all.”
