Sources in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 understand that Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson will become a Tottenham Hotspur player by Wednesday.
Sigurdsson, a set piece specialist and known for his long range passing, shooting and an exceptional creative ability in the middle of the park arrived at Swansea City last season in January from German club Hoffenheim on a brief loan spell.
Sigurdsson's performances in midfield over the years have seen him get voted as player of the season for Hoffenheim and Reading, in the past. His loan spell at Swansea last season made him a prominent figure in the current summer transfer window, with Tottenham
always looking to be the favourites to land him.
The Swans agreed a £6.8 million fee with the German club for the permanent transfer of the Icelandic international on 28th May. This deal was supposed to be subject to him passing a medical. However, the move came to a standstill following Brendan Rodgers
departure to Liverpool.
In 18 Premier League games during his loan spell for Swansea, Sigurdsson managed to score seven goals along with four assists – an impressive record for someone who had just arrived in the winter transfer window.
Rodgers was hoping to reunite with the midfielder at Anfield, but talks apparently failed. Sigurdsson had snubbed a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and instead opted for Tottenham as the player looks set to secure a permanent move to the North London club.
Speaking to Hoffenheim’s official website, coach Markus Babbel said: "Gylfi Sigurdsson is nearing agreement with a Premier League club. It’s all about the final details. I am assuming that the transfer will be completed by the end of the week."
The manager refused to name the Premier League club but stated his confidence in the player to be one of the top players in the German Bundesliga. However, he said he will not stand in the player’s way and will let him seek out a new challenge in the English
top flight.
Sigurdsson is rated very highly by many pundits and analysts. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iceland-c2921 national team manager recently praised the midfielder and said:
"Gylfi had a fantastic season with Swansea and he has great quality. I was really impressed with what he did with Swansea and the way they played really suited him.
"If he has some good players around him, then I think he’s an absolutely top player - but he does need to be surrounded by quality.
“If that happens, then I think he could be a really world class player in the right environment.”
