Squash Australia chief Gary O'Donnell honours two recent Australian squash retirees – Squash News
David Palmer and Stewart Boswell were honoured by the Australian Squash Federation’s chief, Gary O'Donnell for their world class performances in their professional career. Both athletes said goodbye to their professional careers
earlier this year.
 Palmer was all set to retire from professional squash after the World Open and that’s exactly what he did whilst his compatriot’s last tournament proved to be at Kuwait’s soil, Kuwait Cup.
Australia has a lasting legacy in the field of squash and has been repeatedly producing some world class talented youngsters that have ruled the world. These two players are the living example of that and the appreciation goes
to them for promoting squash in Australia and being the most esteemed ambassadors of Australia.
They have represented their country on all most all major platforms at squash and proved to the world that they have got something that fans are crazy about. Chief was excited with the fact that both players finished their careers
at a high note and praised them with following words, “The two have represented their country with distinction on many occasions and have always given their best whenever they have pulled on the green and gold shirts."
Palmer surpassed century of months listing him amongst the top 10 players of the world and retired as world number nine that shows his ability all round greatness especially at the courts. O’Donnell further added, “They have also
enjoyed wonderful success as individuals and have been great examples for our younger players. I wish them well in the future."
Boswell was very competent as well securing 20 titles in his career whilst his compatriot was always amongst the showstoppers and accumulated 27 titles in his entire career. Boswell was outstanding with his performance but in the
midst of his career incurred a severe back injury that forced her to slip few ranks from his career high world number to world number eleven in 2007 and then stumbled further to world number sixteen at his retirement.
Palmer on the other hand was terrific throughout the career securing 2008 Australian Open title that was added to the tally of two World Opens and four British Opens titles. It is good to see that squash is flourishing in this
part of the world and youngsters are encouraged to take on this sport as a profession.
