I have a 1993 Honda Ascot, and its got a really annoying squeak. I took it to the mechanic, and he said its the air filter (thought it might have been a belt myself?) But now i think it may be the throttle.

My question to you, is, how much will it cost to repair the air filter/throttle body.

Thanks

  1. if you took it to a mechanic why didn't you trust what he said and why didn't you get a quote from him

  2. you need to give more info on the squuekin problem . idoes the noise wen you make turns ? wen you stop ? the trotle does not makes squiling noises .a hose on the intake might be you problem but the noise  from a house is not to loud unlusyou car has a turbo

  3. Get a second opinion even if you have to drive a long distance.

  4. It really depends on what the squeaking really was. I don't understand how the air filter could be squeaking,if it's the belt slipping that is just due to an over worn belt or it not being tight enough. An air filter is relatively cheap about 20 bucks if you do it your self. a mech will charge 50 plus labor most likely and the throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine, in response to driver input. While the accelerator is often called a "gas pedal", it would be more accurate to describe it as an "air pedal" opens as the throttle is depressed in coorspodence to the air/gas mixture. The entire thing if the squeak is really the air filter and throttle body shouldn't be any more than $200 Bucks at the estemated 80 dollars an hour they charge you and depending on how hard the mech is sticking it to you.

  5. a true tecnican would need more info like wher is the sqeak comfrom over bumps when turning driving on a rough road noise that comes from air filter throttle body is far fetched
