I have a Squier Affinity Strat HSS (i guess that is what it is called); it is the the affinity with the bridge humbucker.

I was curious; would it sound better if I got a cover for the humbucker? And how would I go about finding the right cover/installing it?

  1. covers are optional, i myself really can't tell the difference. and i wouldn't recommend puttin git on yourself, let the local music shop do that, or just send it off to have it put on.

  2. A cover wont really do much unless you have a really high powered bucker. They are mainly there for damage control anyways, stop you from getting feedback and unwanted noise from your pick. If you want to grab one, any will do, they all function the same just with a different look, so you can baically shop with looks in mind. Only let it be installed by a pro, you could ruin your pick up if  something goes way wrong.

For me, I would just save that money and look into buying a new bucker all together.

BTW  the Squier Affinity Strat "HSS" stands for Humbucker, single, single. That is your pick up configuration from Bridge to Neck.

  3. If you put a cover on that humbucker, you will cut some of the sound. Put your hand over your mouth and tell me how you can project your voice ?

Same thing with the humbucker. It is  magnets that pickup the string's frequencies and if you cover part of the humbucker, you will affect the sound slightly.

your choice and covers are pretty well standard. Call Fender. I am sure they have the cover but i wouldn't out it on.

  4. Metal covers act as a type of low-pass filter for a pickup... they cut some of the highest treble. Uncovered pickups have a more edgy, trebly, and raw sound, while covered pickups tend to have a smoother, tamer, controlled sound.

Your local music store should have information on how to get them and information on how to install them.
