Just got off the phone with a buddy in Indiana and he was sayin' that he went out huntin' Red Squirrel ta'day and the 4 he got had this spot problem. Also mentioned that the area of fur over these spots looked sorta' ragged. Anyone ever encounter this before? Pre-thanks in order ;)...< ' ( (( > <

  1. ......

  2. Yes, its were wolves were. Its a perisite that gets under there skin. It feeds off them in the warm months. Usually after the second frost they die. I would not recommend eating a squirl that has had these.

  3. yea, i wouldnt eat a squirrel if it had purple spots on them, might make u sick....... go huntin in a diffrent area for em if ur lookin for a meal

  4. It sounds like mange. Why would skin a squirrel? Is he going to eat them.

  5. Sounds like bots, what Jennifer is calling wolves

They probably have a few other names in other regions also

This is the reason for the old saying that you never hunt squirrels in a month without an R in it

They are not supposed to affect the meat, you go ahead and tell me about it

Mange would not affect the meat just the skin
