Sri Krishna Priya K. moves into second round of All India Junior Ranking Tournament – Badminton news
Sri Krishna Priya K. moved into the second round after stunning Sanchali Dasgupta in the Girl’s Singles U-17 first round of the 2011 All India Junior Ranking Tournament, in Chandigarh, India, on Wednesday, October 5.
Priya, who had to clear the qualifying round first, proved her skills in the opening match of the main draw of the event where she defeated seventh seed, Sanchali, in a three-set superb fight which lasted for 34 minutes.
The score in the opening game progressed closely as both girls kept the pace of the game quite high. They heavily relied on smashes coupled with net killings and wonderful drives. Until the break, Sanchali was one-point ahead of Priya at 11-10.
After the break, the Priya tried to employ variations in her strokes but failed to take any advantage as her opponent was quicker in picking the bird. The score was 21-21 when Priya failed to tackle the attacking play of Sanchali and lost the set by a 21-23
margin in 13 minutes.
The second game of this close fight progressed in similar manner as both shuttlers played fast and positive badminton throughout the set and reached 20-20. The level of the game was same from both sides and no one could predict victory for any player. Priya
played smartly and clinched the second game by a margin of 22-20 in 12 minutes.
In the final game, Priya was quicker from the starting points and gained a good position in the match by setting up an 11-8 lead until the 60-second break.
After the one-minute interval, Sanchali did everything she could to stop the aggressive run of her challenger, but failed as Priya was playing on a higher level this time. The positive and aggressive play of Priya helped her to win the set with a four-point
difference of 21-17, in just 9 minutes.
After an interesting battle between both shuttlers, this first-round rubber-set match ended in 34 minutes by a 21-23, 22-20 and 21-17 score on the board.
