On Tuesday, January 31, 2012 Sri Lanka A made a comeback in the five-match unofficial One Day International (ODI) series after winning the third match against England by six wickets at Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala.
England going in the match with two victories behind them, were the obvious favourites and after winning the toss, the Poms opted to bat first, aiming to amass a massive tally for Sri Lanka to chase.
However, they received an unwanted wakeup call when they lost their first wicket without a run on the board.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Taylor-c66127, who came in at number-three then took hold of the situation and prevented the Sri Lankans from wrecking havoc as they batted splendidly against an extremely offensive bowling arsenal.
With 22 runs on the board, England lost their second wicket when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 departed after playing an innings of 13 runs.
Right-hand batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jos-Buttler-c1733, brought another challenge for the Sri Lankans as he exhibited impressive form, giving the Lankan bowlers a run for their money.
England’s third wicket fell with 63 runs on the board, as Hales departed after scoring 27 runs.
Buttler was then provided excellent support by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206 and then by Jonny Bairstow as the batsmen smashed 24 and 31 runs.
On the other hand, Buttler looked in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Killeen-c79132 form as he disintegrated Sri Lanka’s bowling attack by unleashing a ruthless batting onslaught, as he hammered 119 runs to help his side post 258 runs on the board.
England might have gone on to amass a bigger total had their lower-batting-order not faltered in front of the Sri Lankan bowlers.
From Sri Lanka, spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Seekkuge-Prasanna-c89140 was the top wicket taker with three wickets to his name.
The Lankans had a terrible start to their innings as they lost their first wicket, with nil on the board. However, some outstanding batting from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SHT-Kandamby-c2522 (55) earned the Lankans victory as they posted 263 runs in 47.3 overs with four wickets down.
