Incisive bowling performances from Dulanjana Mendis and Nishantha Weerakkody enabled the Sri Lankan Navy Sports Club to clinch a 26-run win in their rain-affected Group B match against the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club, in the ongoing Premier Limited Over
Tournament, at the Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club Ground in Colombo on December 27.
The match kicked off with the Air Force SC winning the toss and choosing to field first. The team put forth a concentrated bowling performance, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daramura-Hettige-Akila-Isanka-c52404 (10-0-31-3), Pishan Hewage (10-2-16-3), Thuppahi Nadeera (3.2-0-25-2), and Lasanda Rukmal (10-0-26-2)
joining forces to apply checks on the Navy SC’s players.
Opening batsman Gayas Christopher made an early exit in the 9th over, at the hands of Rukmal, after a mere 8-run contribution, and fellow opener Dhanushka Gurusinghe (21) followed in the very next over, falling prey to Nadeera. Duleeka Thissakuttige
managed to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease for longer, and chipped in with a 38-run contribution.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thanthirige-Ranil-Rasanga-c93112 (2) and Wimesh Wickramasinghe (3), reducing the Navy SC to 117 for 6.
Hewage finally managed to dislodge Thissakuttige, and from there onwards, it was a downhill slide for the team. Owing to small contributions from Lakmal Keerthiratne (3), Supeshala Jayathilake (10), Dulanjana Mendis (15), and Nishantha Weerakkody (2*), however,
the team managed to post a final total of 147 by the time they were all out within 49 overs.
The Air Force SC were unable to follow up their solid bowling with an equally strong batting performance, and most of the top and middle order served as easy pickings for Dulanjana Mendis (7.3-1-17-3), Nishantha Weerakkody (9-2-12-2), and Ruwansiri and Keerthiratne
(both of whom picked up one wicket each).
Top-order batsmen Nadeera (4), Sajith Kalumpriya (5), and Supun Navaratne (3) were all lacklustre, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jagodage-Raju-Gayashan-Namal-c65289 (0), and Akila
Isanka (2) registered disappointing performances.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pishan-Chathuska-Hewage-c82308 (11*) attempted to instil some solidity in the team’s performance, but their unbeaten 30-run partnership came to an abrupt end as the game was stopped due to rain when the Air Force SC were at 93 for 7 in 38.3 overs.
As per D/L calculations, the target would have been 120 runs from 38.3 overs, and the SL Navy SC went on to secure a 26-run win.
