Sri Lanka Army Sports Club v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Air Force Sports Club – Premier Limited Over Tournament (Group B) – Match Update – SL Army SC secures 6-wicket win
Twin half-centuries, from skipper Manjula de Zoysa and Seekkuge Prasanna, were the driving force behind the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club’s performance, and enabled them to claim a 6-wicket win over the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club in the ongoing Premier
Limited Over Tournament, at the Army Ground in Panagoda, today on December 11.
Having decided to bat first after winning the toss, the SL Air SC made valiant attempts to post a high total, but were thwarted in their attempts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waligama-Ravindra-Palleguruge-c95897 (6-0-17-2), all of
whom teamed up to keep the opposition’s batting order in check.
Faltering under the strain of the Army SC’s bowling attack, only four of the Air SC’s batsmen succeeded in progressing beyond single-digit scores. Opening batsman Thuppahi Nadeera (3) was sent packing in the 6th over, bowled by Janith Silva, but
Sajith Kalumpriya (37) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bammanna-Mudiyanselage-Rajitha-Nuwan-Bandara-Ratnayake-c47251 (25) both teamed up for a 59-run partnership for the second wicket.
Their combined efforts got the team total up to 73, after which both batsmen were dismissed by Mendis in the 18th over. Yashodha Lanka (7) and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kosgodage-Ajith-Kumara-c71668 (1) both registered lukewarm performances, and were snapped up by Palleguruge.
The team received some short-lived respite with the 41-run 6th wicket stand between skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daramura-Hettige-Akila-Isanka-c52404
(0) falling prey to Liyanapathirana.
From there onwards, the batsmen registered disappointing performances, and following the departures of tail-enders http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samarakoon-Tharanga-Ravin-Jayawardene-c88240 (4), and Lasanda Rukmal (0) – the former off Liyanapathirana, and the last two off Mendis – the Air SC found
themselves all out at 144.
The Army SC chased the total down with ease, within 35 overs, and lost just 4 wickets in the process. Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Randeerage-Don-Indika-Aruna-Karunathilaka-c83950 (7) and Rishan Kavinga (12) were both sent back to the pavilion in the 5th over, while Lakshan Edirisinghe (4) and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Downdegedara-Asela-Sampath-Gunaratne-c54651 (11) were similarly lacklustre.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Seekkuge-Prasanna-c89140 (57*) joined forces for an unbeaten 94-run 5th wicket partnership, which saw the team home safe, enabling them to reach 147 with 6 wickets still in hand, and 94 balls remaining.
