Sri Lanka Cricket Opt for a Skeletal Change for SLPL - Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka Cricket has made a major skeletal change, confirming the introduction of the franchise system for the inaugural Sri Lankan Premier League.
Initially the tournament was supposed to start last year in July but the Sri Lankan administration had to face many obstacles to start the league as it had been planned. The BCCI pulled off their participation at the last minute curtailing the involvement
of Indian players which greatly affected the team’s combinations and further forcing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 cricket into postponing the tournament, making it a big disappointment for their fans and players, who were going to feature in the league.
Despite all the setbacks, SLC are all set to get the tournament underway this year, as new tenders will be issued for the adopted system at a base price of $3 million per franchise. A potential owner could bid for 3 teams at most with the deadline date being
set at 25 of this month. The tender procedures will close the very day and bids for the players will start - the highest bidders will eventually get to claim one or more franchises for the next seven years.
The total number of players will be drafted in two groups, one consisting of overseas players and the other composed of the home grown players .The sequence of biding will be through a lottery system, where a certain base price will be set for each player
and the franchises will then bid accordingly.
The teams will have a suitable balance of international and local players. The board has set rules where only 4 foreign players can play in a team, while 6 overseas recruits can be present in an 18- man squad. One under-21 international Sri Lankan player
will have to be included in the playing 11 as per policy recommended by the board.
