Sri Lanka Cricket announce squads for England warm-ups – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka Cricket on Wednesday announced its Sri Lanka Board XI and Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI squads for England’s pre-series warm up matches.
Test wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SHT-Kandamby-c2522 will lead Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI in their respective matches against the on-tour world number one Test side,  England, ahead of the first Test, commencing in Galle on March 26.
Jayawardene, the 32-year-old wicketkeeper batsman from Colombo, has recently recovered from a hernia surgery he had undergone during the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in October last year and is likely to keep wickets for the Lankans in the two-Test series against England. The warm-up match against Poms, starting at the R Premadasa Stadium today, March 15, 2012, will provide the gloveman a chance to shape his body ahead of the international assignment later this month.
Jayawardene has been quite impressive in Sri Lanka’s ongoing first-class season where he was playing for club side Bloomfield. In six matches played for the club, the right-handed wicketkeeper batsman has amassed 412 runs at an average 45.77, including a century and two half centuries as well.
Sri Lanka’s chairman of selectors, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashantha-Lakdasa-Francis-de-Mel-c46253 said that they have mostly picked youngsters for the warm-ups as they hardly get exposure against international sides.
"We want to give as much exposure to the youngsters who hardly get to play much international matches," said de Mel after announcing the squads.
“Playing against a strong http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 side will give them that kind of exposure which they lack. The standard of our domestic cricket gives limited opportunities to our players who find it hard to bridge the gap between first-class cricket and Test cricket," he added further.
