Sri Lanka Cricket appoint Stuart Law as interim coach of national side
Sri Lanka Cricket has promoted their assistant coach Stuart Law to the post of head coach for the team’s tour of England which begins in May 2011.
Since 2009, Law has been working with the Sri Lankan team as the deputy of the head coach Trevor Bayliss.
A spokesperson of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket has confirmed the appointment of Law while stating that the Aussie will be an ‘interim’ coach of the national team. Sri Lanka Cricket is expected to appoint a full time coach for the national team after the tour of England
which consists of three Tests and five One Day Internationals.
The appointment of Law comes as the head coach Bayliss will not be seeking renewal of his contract as he had earlier stated that he would relinquish his post after the conclusion of ICC World Cup 2011. According to details, Bayliss will be heading back to

Law has represented Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier league as their captain and has also been awarded the Medal of Order of Australia in 2007.
Sri Lanka reached the final of the recently concluded World Cup for the second consecutive time but failed to grab the title again as they were defeated by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Following their defeat in the event, a series of resignations has struck Sri Lanka Cricket.
Skipper Kumar Sangakkara submitted his resignation from the post after which his deputy Mahela Jayawardene was expected to take up the role. However, within 24 hours of Sangakkara’s resignation, Jayawardene also tendered in his resignation.
Referring to Jayawardene’s resignation, secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishantha-Ranatunga-c79713 said, “Mahela had taken up the vice captaincy duty only till the end of the World Cup. This morning, he handed in a letter stating that he did not like continuing
as the vice-captain of the team.”
Soon after, the three-member selection committee headed by former batsman Aravinda de Silva also filed in their resignations to give SLC time to formulate a new selection committee for the benefit of cricket in Sri Lanka.
In a statement to the board, the selection committee said, “In view of the fact that some major cricketing decisions have to be taken for the future of Sri Lanka Cricket due to important assignments in the coming months, we would like to offer to step down
immediately from the jobs of National Selectors.”
Former skipper Sangakkara has favoured youngsters Tillakaratne Dilshan, Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga and Upul Tharanga to lead Sri Lanka in future.
